Mljet is the most south-easterly of the larger Adriatic islands in Croatia. It has been a national park since November 12, 1960. Over 84% of the island is forest.

The seaside villages of Pomena, Polača, Sobra and Saplunara attract the most visitors. They come for  hiking, biking, swimming, stunning scenery and peaceful atmosphere that reign everywhere.

This beautiful island is so seductive, the legend has it that Odysseus came and stayed here for seven years.

Great and Small lakes are central part of Mljet National Park. Inside the Great lake there is a small isle of St. Mary, with a Benedictine monastery and a church dating from 12th century.

You can stroll along the lakes on paths shaded by pine trees, bicycle through the park, rent a kayak to paddle the lakes or simply swim and enjoy clear, blue water. If you want some solitude, there are numerous islolated spots to enjoy here.

Ancient Greeks called this island "Melita" or "honey", which over the centuries evolved to become the Slavic name, Mljet .
